1940's International Style House, 3200 square feet sitting on 1.5+/- acres with front on Highway 5, between Blue Ridge and McCaysville, GA/Copper Hill, TN. The house is perched on a ridge, parallel to Highway 5 with mountain views on three of the four sides. North Carolina Mountains are visible from the back, Tennessee Mountains off the north side, and the Georgia Cohutta Mountains off the front veranda. Click on photo for more detailed information.

Historic home of local significance, this stately home was designed and built by German Physician - Dr. Chan Strauss, who was brought here at the turn of the century to be the physician for the local copper mine in Copper Hill, TN. The home was designed with influences from the German Bauhaus movement, which stimulated Frank Lloyd Wright and the American Prarie Architecture movement. Every corner of the house is flanked with huge corner windows providing double directional views of the mountains and scenery.

Enormous front stone veranda with outside fireplace, ceiling fans and multiple seating areas.

Circular drive with handicap and additional parking for 10-15 cars. More parking could be made available.

Highway 5 is slated to be converted to a 4-lane by the GA DOT this year due to rapidly rising use. Traffic Counts on Highway 5 as of October 21, 2007:

Average Weekday: Approx 16,500

Average Weekend: Approx 18,000

Overall Weekly Average: 16,688 cars per day and rising.

The house was restored 3 years ago for a commercial office and has new electrical, partially new HVAC and all new high speed ethernet connections in every room. All of the original German styled wood work remains, the original plumbing fixtures (pink in one bath and turquoise in the other) remain and the original 1" wide strip, oak flooring remain in excellent condition throughout the entire house except the kitchen, baths and library.

There is a huge stand-up attic that is great for storage and a partial, stand up with concrete floor crawl space.

The back yard is fenced with a doggy-door from the sun room. The yard is filled with perenial flowers, huge evergreens and a rolling lawn that faces Highway 5.
